Preface
Annual Review of Pharmacology
The increasing acceptance of Annual Review of Pharmacology continues to gratify those of us involved in its production. A survey of the titles published in the first nine volumes suggests that its success must be due in large part to the broad coverage of pharmacology and toxicology which it has provided. Articles range from delightful biographical sketches of famous pharmacologists and occasional overviews of pharmacology in parts of the world not ordinarily accessible to most pharmacologists, through the essence of pharmacological and toxicological research of all types to the much praised Review of Reviews which Chauncey Leake happily prepares year after year. Significantly, pharmacologists are well aware of the development of their science, and their articles contain so much new material that book reviewers often tend to classify Annual Review of Pharmacology as a text. Also significant is the increasing sophistication of toxicology as reflected in the many excellent reviews in this area. About one seventh of all reviews are primarily toxicological as befits the importance of man's interrelationship with his environment. We look forward to more toxicological reviews indicating that we are finally gaining control over the powerful chemicals that we inject into our environment and each other in the hope of improving our lot.
We express our appreciation for their dedicated assistance to our assistant editor Mrs. Virginia Hoyle, our indexer Mrs. Dorothy Read, and our printers the George Banta Company Inc.
